El Abrazo Partido
(Lost Embrace)
Dir: Daniel Burman
2004

The story of Ariel, an Argentinean 20-year-old from a Jewish family, who battles with the unresolved conflicts created by the abandonment of his father. Caught in the world of a small, predominantly Jewish, shopping centre in Buenos Aires, his mother and brother both fitting into the unquestioned jigsaw puzzle, he is the black sheep of the family who thinks running away to Europe will settle his angst. The appearance of his father as a war hero with one arm, an idealist who went to fight in Israel, unsettles his anger. Further complications arise when he delves into the truth behind his father’s flight and he begins to accept his life and family, especially through the characters of his father and grandmother.
